Kennedy Poynter. Auckland, New Zealand
My career as a multi-disciplined designer began in the skateboard and streetwear industry, designing for a fledgling skateboard clothing label. Under my direction, this brand became one of the Australasia’s most successful labels in the early 2000s. Following from this success, I co-founded an independent New Zealand footwear brand sold by major distributors and retailers in Europe, North America and Asia.
Alongside launching my independent ventures, I’ve had the privilege of collaborating with various brands on products from sunglasses, apparel, and footwear to web design, infusing each project with my unique perspective and style. Whether designing apparel or accessories, I thrive on the challenge of marrying form with function and style with substance.
Beyond the design studio, I’ve worn many hats, including that of a production manager. Dealing with key offshore partners, I’ve navigated the intricacies of manufacturing processes, ensuring that every product meets the highest standards of quality and craftsmanship. In addition to production management, I’ve also taken on the role of sales and marketing. Guiding distribution strategies and fostering relationships with retailers, I’ve played a pivotal role in expanding market reach and driving sales growth.
My path as a designer is an ongoing quest for creativity, innovation, and the pursuit of new challenges.
